The story

King James I

Hello! My name is James, and I was a king. Being a king meant I was a special helper for my country. I started as the king of a beautiful country called Scotland. Then, something amazing happened! I also became the king of another big country, England. I was the king of two whole countries at the same time!

I loved reading books and learning new things more than anything. I wanted everyone to be able to read a very important book, so I gathered many smart people to help me create a new version of the Bible in English that was easy to understand. People still read this book today! I also loved adventure. During my time as king, brave explorers sailed across the ocean and built a new town in America. They named it Jamestown, after me!

I was a king for a very long time and tried my best to help my people. I lived to be 58 years old. Today, people remember me for bringing two countries, Scotland and England, together as friends. They also remember me for helping to create that special book that families have shared and read for hundreds of years.
