Just want King Philip II of France?
Hello! My name is Philip, and I was a king of France a very long time ago. I was born on August 21st, 1165. My father was King Louis VII, and when I was born, everyone in the kingdom was so happy! They finally had a prince who would one day become king. Growing up in a big castle was very exciting. I spent my days learning everything I needed to know about being a good and fair leader for all of my people.
I became king sooner than I expected! In the year 1180, my father passed away, and I was crowned King Philip II. I was only a teenager, but I was ready for the big job. At that time, the kingdom of France wasn't as big as you might think of it today. I had a big dream in my heart: I wanted to bring all the lands of France together and make my kingdom strong and safe for everyone who lived there.
Being a king was a very big job, and I ruled for more than 40 years. To make France bigger and safer, I sometimes had to lead my brave knights into battle. One of the most important days of my entire life was in 1214, at a place called Bouvines. My army won a huge victory at the Battle of Bouvines that day! This victory helped make France one of the most powerful kingdoms in all of Europe. I also wanted my capital city, Paris, to be a wonderful place to live. I helped build a strong wall all around the city to keep it safe. I also had the muddy streets paved with stone, and I even started building a famous castle that you might know today—the Louvre!
I lived to be 57 years old. When my time as king was over, I left behind a France that was much bigger and stronger than when I started. The people even gave me a special nickname, 'Augustus,' because it means someone who builds things up, and I had done so much to build up my kingdom. I am remembered for helping to make France the great country it is today.
