Just want Leland Stanford?
Hello. My name is Leland Stanford. Ever since I was little, I loved to build big, important things. My favorite things to build were for trains. Choo-choo. I loved trains. I helped build a very, very long train track. It was so long that it went all the way across the country. This new track helped people ride the train to visit their families, even if they lived far, far away. It made me happy to help people see the ones they loved.
I had a wonderful family. My wife's name was Jane, and we had a son. We named him Leland, just like me. We loved our son so much. He was bright and kind, and he made us smile every day. But one day, our son Leland became very sick, and he passed away. Jane and I were very, very sad. We missed him more than words can say. We wanted to do something special to remember our wonderful boy. We decided to do something that would help other children for many years to come.
Our big idea was to build a giant school and name it after our son. We called it Stanford University. We wanted it to be a happy place where people could go to learn all kinds of amazing things. I lived to be 69 years old. The school Jane and I built is still there today, helping people learn and grow. That school is how people remember me, my wife, and our wonderful son, Leland.
