Just want Louis XVI?
Hello! My name is Louis-Auguste, but you probably know me as King Louis XVI of France. I was born on August 23rd, 1754, in a truly grand home called the Palace of Versailles. It was a giant, sparkling palace with the most beautiful gardens you can imagine. As a boy, I didn't spend all my time playing. I loved to read books and learn all about science and geography. I also had a very special hobby that might surprise you—I loved making and fixing all kinds of locks! It was like solving a fun puzzle.
I never expected to be the king. But in 1774, when my grandfather, King Louis XV, passed away, it became my duty to lead the country of France. I was only 19 years old, which felt very young to have such a big job. A few years before that, in 1770, I had married a princess from a country called Austria. Her name was Marie Antoinette. When I became king, I truly wanted to be a good and fair leader for everyone. My biggest wish was to help the people of France. But the country had very big problems. There wasn't enough money, and many families were poor and hungry.
I tried my best to make things better for everyone, but fixing the country's problems was very difficult. The people of France wanted big changes, and they wanted them to happen right away. In the year 1789, a very important time in history called the French Revolution began. It was a time when many people spoke up and demanded a new way of running the country. Because of this, my family and I had to leave our beautiful home at Versailles. We moved to a palace right in the middle of the city of Paris. It was a confusing and sometimes scary time for everyone in France. After a while, the new leaders of the revolution decided they didn't want a king to rule them anymore.

My time as king ended during this great change in France. My life ended when I was 38 years old. Today, I am remembered as the very last king of France before it became a republic. A republic is a country where the people get to choose their own leaders. My story is part of a very important moment in history that changed my country forever. It showed the whole world just how powerful the voices of the people can be when they work together for change.
