Hello! My name is Margarita Salas, and I was a scientist. I loved looking at the teeny-tiny things that make our bodies work. These things are so small, you can't even see them with just your eyes! Using my big microscope was like being a detective for the smallest clues in the world. I always wondered what made living things grow and what secret instructions they followed to become big and strong.
I discovered that everything that is alive, from a big tree to a little ladybug, has a special instruction book inside called DNA. It tells our bodies what to do! I found a very special, tiny helper that could read the DNA book and make lots and lots of copies of it, super fast. This was a very exciting discovery! It was like finding a magic copier for the body's most important book.
Because we could make so many copies of the instructions, other scientists and doctors could read them more easily. My discovery helps them learn new things and help people who are sick. I lived to be 80 years old, and I was so happy my curiosity helped the world. I hope you stay curious, too!
