Hello! My name is Maurice Ravel. When I was a little boy, I loved music more than anything. My favorite thing to do was sit at the big piano and press the keys. Plink, plonk, plink! I learned to play when I was just a little boy, around the year 1882, and soon I was making up my own tunes. I loved how sounds could make you feel happy or sleepy or ready to dance.
I loved writing music that told stories without any words. Some of my music sounds like a beautiful painting with lots of colors, and some sounds like a spinning top that goes around and around! I wrote a very famous piece of music in 1928 called Boléro. It starts very, very quiet... shhh... and then gets louder and LOUDER and LOUDER until it sounds like a big, happy parade of sounds! It is very fun to listen to and count all the instruments.
I lived to be 62 years old. My music is still played by big orchestras all over the world today for everyone to enjoy. I hope when you hear my songs, they make you feel like dancing, dreaming, or imagining a wonderful adventure.
