Just want Ögedei Khan?
Hello! My name is Ögedei Khan. I lived a very long time ago in a big, beautiful land. My father was a famous and strong leader named Genghis Khan. He started our great Mongol Empire. My father taught me how to be a kind leader and take care of our people. Before he went on his final journey, he chose me to be the next Great Khan, which is like being the king of everyone!
When I became the leader in the year 1229, I wanted to do great things for my people. I thought everyone needed a special home base. So, around the year 1235, I built a wonderful city called Karakorum. It had strong walls to keep everyone safe, cozy homes, and pretty gardens. I also wanted my friends and family to talk to each other, even when they were far apart. I made a super-fast mail service with riders on speedy horses. It was called the Yam. A rider would gallop with a message to a little house, get a fresh horse, and zoom off again! It was the fastest way to send a hello across our land.
I was the Great Khan for many years and watched our home grow strong. I lived to be 56 years old. Today, people remember me for the amazing city I built and for the speedy Yam mail service that brought everyone closer together. I was so happy I could give my people a wonderful place to call home.
