Just want Pierre de Fermat?
Hello! My name is Pierre de Fermat. I lived a very, very long time ago in a beautiful country called France. I was born in the year 1607. When I was a little boy, I loved numbers more than anything. To me, numbers were like a fun game. Numbers were my favorite toys! I loved to see all the wonderful things they could do. They were like little friends I could play with all day long.
When I grew up, I had a very important job. Around the year 1631, I became a lawyer. I wore a fancy robe and I helped people solve their problems. That was my job during the day. But when I was not working, I had a special hobby that I loved so much. I would sit down and play with my numbers. I made up puzzles in my head and then I would try to solve them. It was my favorite secret game, and it made me so happy to think about all the patterns numbers could make.
I loved to write down my ideas in the empty spaces of my books. We call those empty spaces margins. Around the year 1637, I wrote a note about a super-duper tricky number puzzle. It was so hard that it took other smart people hundreds of years to solve it! I lived to be 58 years old. I am so happy that my number games and puzzles are still used today to help everyone learn more about the amazing world of math.
