Plato
Hello! My name is Plato. I lived a very, very long time ago, around the year 428 BC, in a beautiful, sunny place called Athens, in Ancient Greece. Even when I was a little boy, I loved to think about big questions. I would look up at the stars and wonder what they were. I would ask my friends, 'What makes a game fair?'. Thinking was my very favorite thing to do, and I was always curious about the world around me.
I had a very wise teacher named Socrates. He was the best! He didn't just tell us the answers to our questions. Instead, he would ask us questions back! 'Why do you think that?' he would ask with a kind smile. He taught me that asking lots of questions is the best way to learn and understand the world. It was like a fun game for our minds, and it made me think even more.
I wanted everyone to have a wonderful place where they could think and learn together. So, in the year 387 BC, I started a school in a lovely garden. I called it the Academy. It was a very special place where people came to share all of their big ideas. We talked about friendship, numbers, and how to make the world a better, kinder place for everyone. We all learned so much from each other there.
I lived to be about 80 years old. Even though that was a long, long time ago, people today still read the books I wrote and talk about the questions I asked. My ideas about learning and being a good person are still shared in schools all over the world. It makes me happy to know that thinking and asking questions is still so important to everyone.
