Just want Ptolemy I Soter?
Hello! My name is Ptolemy. I was born a very long time ago, around the year 367 BCE, in a kingdom called Macedonia. As a boy, I was lucky to have a very special friend. His name was Alexander, and he happened to be the son of our king. We spent our days studying, training for battle, and dreaming of the great adventures we would have one day. We had no idea at the time that he would become known all over the world as Alexander the Great, and that I would be right there with him.
In 336 BCE, Alexander became the new king. Right away, he began one of the biggest adventures in all of history. He planned to lead his army to conquer the massive Persian Empire, and he asked me to join him as one of his top generals and a personal bodyguard. For many years, we traveled across scorching deserts and over tall mountains. I fought beside him in huge battles and helped him plan our strategies. I was one of his most trusted friends, and I learned so much about what it means to be a great leader just by watching him.
Our incredible journey came to a sad end when Alexander passed away in the year 323 BCE. He had built one of the largest empires the world had ever seen, but he had not named anyone to take his place. His generals, including me, gathered together and decided the best thing to do was to divide the lands he had conquered. I had always been fascinated by the land of Egypt. Its towering pyramids, the powerful Nile River, and its ancient history amazed me. I chose to go to Egypt and become its new governor, which was a title called a satrap.

I quickly fell in love with Egypt and its wonderful people. I showed great respect for their ancient traditions and the gods they worshipped. After I had spent many years ruling and protecting Egypt as its governor, I made a big decision. In the year 305 BCE, I declared myself its king, Pharaoh Ptolemy the 1st. This was the start of a whole new royal family, which became known as the Ptolemaic Dynasty. My family would go on to rule Egypt for nearly 300 years! I also created a new capital city called Alexandria, and I dreamed of making it the most magnificent city in the entire world.
My biggest dream for Alexandria was not just to build beautiful palaces and temples, but to make it a city filled with knowledge and ideas. I began a huge project to build a great library, which became famous as the Library of Alexandria. I sent people all over to collect every book and scroll they could find. My goal was to have all the world's knowledge in one place. Next to the library, I built a special place called a 'Musaeum.' It was like a university where the smartest scholars, scientists, and writers could come to study, share their discoveries, and teach others. Alexandria truly became a shining light of learning for everyone.
In 285 BCE, I passed my throne to my son, who became Ptolemy the 2nd. This allowed me to spend my final years doing what I loved most: writing and reading. I lived to be about 84 years old. People remember me as Ptolemy Soter, which means 'Ptolemy the Savior,' for protecting Egypt. The kingdom I created lasted for centuries, and the great Library of Alexandria became the most important center of knowledge in the ancient world. My hope was that it would inspire people to learn and discover for many, many years to come.
