Just want René Magritte?
Hello. My name is René Magritte, and I was a painter from a country called Belgium. I did not paint pictures of things exactly as they looked. Instead, I loved to paint pictures that were like puzzles or dreams. My paintings were full of surprises to make you think and smile.
I loved to paint things you see every day, like green apples, fluffy clouds, and men in round bowler hats. But I put them in silly, surprising places. I once painted a train puffing smoke right out of a fireplace. Another time, I painted a man whose face was hidden by a big green apple floating in the air. One of my most famous paintings is of a pipe. But underneath it, I wrote the words, 'This is not a pipe.' It was my little joke, because it’s not a real pipe you can hold—it’s just a picture of one.
I painted for my whole life, creating pictures that asked fun questions. I lived to be 68 years old. Today, people all over the world look at my art in museums and books. They love my paintings because they show that a little bit of imagination can make the world a magical and mysterious place.
