Robert Baden-Powell: The First Scout

Hello there. My name is Robert Baden-Powell, but my friends called me B-P. When I was a little boy, my favorite thing to do was explore. I loved being outside. I would pretend to be a spy in the woods and follow animal tracks. I also learned how to build secret forts. The world felt like one big, exciting adventure waiting just for me.

When I grew up, I had a big, fun idea. I thought it would be great if all children could learn to be explorers just like me. I wanted to start a special club for them. In the year 1907, I took a group of boys to a place called Brownsea Island for a camping trip. We learned how to tie knots and read maps. We learned how to help each other, too. We cooked our food over a campfire and told stories under the stars. This was the very first camp for what would become the Boy Scouts.

My idea grew and grew. Soon, there were Scouts and Girl Guides all over the world. They all promised to be kind, helpful, and ready for adventure. I lived to be 83 years old. I am so happy that my big idea helps children everywhere learn new skills, make friends, and make the world a better place.
