The story

Sir Francis Drake

Hello there. My name is Francis Drake. I was born in England a long, long time ago. When I was a little boy, I loved the sea. I would watch the big ships with their tall sails and dream of having my own adventures. I wanted to be a captain. I wanted to sail across the big, blue ocean to see what was on the other side of the world.

When I grew up, I got my very own ship. Her name was the Golden Hind, and she was the best ship a captain could ask for. In the year 1577, my crew and I sailed out onto the water, and we didn't stop. We sailed past lands I'd never seen and saw amazing animals. We kept sailing and sailing for a very long time, all the way around the whole world, until we came right back home to England. We were the first English ship to ever do that.

When we got home, the Queen of England, Queen Elizabeth I, was so proud of me and my brave crew. She came right onto my ship and made me a knight. From then on, everyone called me Sir Francis Drake. I lived a life full of adventure on the sea. Today, people remember me as a brave explorer who sailed all around our amazing world.
