The story

Steve Jobs: Thinking Differently

Hello, my name is Steve Jobs. I was born on February 24th, 1955, in San Francisco, California. My story starts a little differently than most. I was adopted by a wonderful couple, Paul and Clara Jobs, who raised me in a place that would later be called Silicon Valley. My dad was a machinist and taught me how to work with my hands, taking apart and rebuilding electronics in our garage. This taught me to care about the details, both inside and out. Even as a kid, I was curious about how things worked and I loved electronics, but I was also interested in art and design, which seemed like two totally different worlds.

In high school, I met a brilliant guy named Steve Wozniak, who we all called 'Woz.' He was a genius with electronics, and we loved playing pranks and building things together. After I spent a short time at Reed College, Woz and I started thinking bigger. We believed that computers could be for everyone, not just for big companies. So, on April 1st, 1976, we started our own company from my parents' garage. We called it Apple Computer. Our first product, the Apple I, was just a circuit board, but it was a start. Then came the Apple II in 1977, which was one of the first personal computers to have color graphics. It was a huge success and changed everything for us.

I wanted to create a computer that was beautiful and incredibly easy to use. That idea led to the Macintosh, which we introduced in 1984. It was the first popular computer to use a mouse and have pictures and folders on the screen, just like we use today. But as Apple grew, I had disagreements with the people running the company. In 1985, in a very difficult moment, I was forced to leave the company I had started. It was heartbreaking, but I realized later that it was one of the best things that could have happened to me. It forced me to be creative in new ways.

After leaving Apple, I didn't stop creating. I started a new computer company called NeXT. We built very powerful computers for schools and scientists. Then, in 1986, I bought a small computer graphics company from George Lucas and renamed it Pixar. You might have heard of it. At Pixar, we worked to make the first-ever completely computer-animated movie. After years of hard work, we released 'Toy Story' in 1995, and it changed movies forever. It showed me that technology and great storytelling could create magic together.

By 1997, Apple was struggling and asked me to come back. It was my chance to save the company I loved. We started by simplifying everything and focusing on making a few amazing products. We launched the colorful iMac in 1998, which changed how home computers looked. Then we thought about music. In 2001, we introduced the iPod, which put '1,000 songs in your pocket.' In 2007, we changed the world again with the iPhone, which was a phone, an iPod, and an internet device all in one. A few years later, in 2010, the iPad created a whole new category of computers.

I always believed that the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do. I lived to be 56 years old, and my time was filled with a passion for creating tools that could help people unleash their own creativity. Today, I am remembered as a co-founder of Apple and a pioneer in the world of technology and animation. I hope my story inspires you to stay curious, to follow your heart, and to make your own dent in the universe.
