The story

Taras Shevchenko: The Artist Who Loved His Home

Hello. My name is Taras Shevchenko. A long time ago, in the year 1814, I was born in a beautiful country called Ukraine. When I was a little boy, I loved to draw and paint everything I saw. I painted the bright yellow sunflowers, the big blue sky, and the cozy little houses. I also loved listening to stories and songs about my home.

I wanted to be an artist more than anything, but it was not easy for me. In the year 1838, some very kind friends saw my drawings and knew how much I loved to create. They decided to help me. They worked together to give me a special gift: the chance to go to a big school where I could learn all about painting and art. I was so happy and thankful for my wonderful friends.

At my new school, I painted many pictures, but I also started writing down the stories and feelings in my heart. In the year 1840, I put all my favorite poems into a book called 'Kobzar.' I wrote poems about the people of Ukraine, our history, and our beautiful land. A kobzar is like a storyteller who sings songs. My book shared the songs of my heart with everyone.

I lived to be 47 years old, and my life ended in the year 1861. Even today, people read my 'Kobzar' and look at my paintings to learn about Ukraine. My art and poems help tell the story of my country, and I am remembered as a great artist who loved his home very much.
