A Story by Thomas Jefferson
Hello! My name is Thomas Jefferson. I lived a long, long time ago in a beautiful place called Virginia. When I was a boy, I loved to read books and learn about everything! I learned about plants, stars, and how to build things. My favorite thing to do was fill my mind with new ideas, like filling a treasure chest with shiny jewels.
I grew up and saw that my country, America, wanted to be a new, free country. I had a very important job. I got my pen and paper and wrote down some very special words. In the year 1776, I wrote that everyone should be able to be happy and free. These words were put into a big letter called the Declaration of Independence. It was like a promise that America would be a kind and fair place for everyone.
Later, I became the third president of the United States! It was a big job, but I loved helping my country. I helped America grow much, much bigger so there would be more room for people to live and explore. I also loved designing buildings and started a big school for people to keep learning, just like I did. I lived a long and busy life, and people still remember me for my big ideas about freedom. My words and ideas are still important today and help people remember to be kind and fair.
