Ulysses S. Grant

Hello! My name is Ulysses S. Grant. I was born on April 27th, 1822. When I was a little boy, I loved to be outside. My favorite thing in the whole world was horses! I learned how to ride them when I was very, very young. They were so strong and fast, and I felt like we were best friends. I loved taking care of them and riding with them all day long.

When I grew up, our country was going through a very sad time called the Civil War. I became a soldier and a leader for the Union Army. It was my job to be brave and to help our country stay together as one big family. I worked very hard with many other brave people to help end the fighting and bring peace back to our home.

After the war was over, the people of the United States chose me to be their 18th president in 1869! Being president was a very important job. I tried to make sure everyone was treated fairly and that our country could be a peaceful and happy place for all the families living in it.

I lived to be 63 years old. People remember me as a hero who helped keep our country together and as a president who worked for peace. My story reminds us that being kind and brave can help everyone.
