The story

Victor Emmanuel II: The First King of Italy

Hello. My name is Victor Emmanuel. A long time ago, I was a prince in a beautiful place called Italy. Back then, Italy was not one big country. It was like a puzzle with many separate pieces. Each little piece had its own way of doing things. I dreamed of a day when all the pieces would fit together perfectly, just like a finished puzzle. I wanted everyone to feel like they were part of one big family in one big country.

My biggest dream was to make Italy one whole country. It was a very big job. I worked with my good friends to help bring all the little puzzle pieces of Italy together. We talked to people and helped them see how wonderful it would be if we were all united. We worked very hard for a long time. Then, on a very happy day in the year 1861, my dream came true. All the pieces came together, and I became the very first king of a united Italy. Everyone celebrated because we were finally one big country.

Because I helped bring everyone together, the people gave me a very special nickname. They called me the "Father of the Fatherland." It made me feel so proud. I lived to be 57 years old. Today, people in Italy remember me as the king who helped make their country one big, happy family. It is wonderful to know that the puzzle of Italy is still whole today.
