Just want Zheng He?
Hello! My name is Zheng He, but I was not always called that. When I was born in a place called Yunnan in China in the year 1371, my name was Ma He. My childhood was very different from most. When I was just a boy, I was taken from my home to serve a young prince named Zhu Di. We spent a lot of time together as we grew up, and I worked hard to help him. Over the years, I became one of his closest and most trusted friends. He knew he could always count on me to be loyal and to do my very best at any task he gave me.
My good friend Zhu Di grew up to become the powerful Yongle Emperor of China! He had big dreams for our country. Around the year 1405, he gave me a very exciting and important job that would change my life forever. He wanted me to lead a giant fleet of ships on amazing adventures across the ocean. These were not just any ships; they were called 'treasure ships.' Some of them were so enormous they were as long as a soccer field! My fleet was huge, with hundreds of ships and thousands of sailors ready for our journey. The emperor told me our mission was to explore new lands, make new friends with people in faraway places, and show everyone the wonderful and amazing things China had to offer.
Between the years 1405 and 1433, I led seven incredible voyages across the huge, sparkling seas. It was a very busy time! We sailed all the way to places in Southeast Asia, then to India, and even reached the coast of Africa. Seeing so many different parts of the world was truly amazing. We met new people and saw new things everywhere we went. We brought back incredible animals for the emperor, like tall giraffes and striped zebras, which no one in China had ever seen before. It was so exciting! We also traded beautiful Chinese silk and porcelain dishes for wonderful things like spices, shiny jewels, and other treasures. On all our journeys, our goal was to be peaceful and make new friends for China.
