Just want Zora Neale Hurston?
Hello! My name is Zora Neale Hurston, and I love stories. I was born a long time ago, in the year 1891. When I was a little girl, I lived in a very special town called Eatonville. It was one of the first towns in America just for Black people. I loved sitting on the porch, listening to the grown-ups tell funny jokes and tall tales. Their stories were like music to my ears.
When I grew up, I wanted to hear even more stories. So, I packed my bags and traveled all around the sunny South. I went to little towns and big cities, listening to people sing songs, share recipes, and tell stories that had been passed down in their families for years and years. I was like a story collector, gathering treasures made of words.
I didn't want to keep these wonderful stories to myself! In 1937, I wrote them all down in books so that children and grown-ups everywhere could enjoy them, too. One of my most famous books is called 'Their Eyes Were Watching God.' I lived to be 69 years old. Even now, people still read my books and remember the beautiful voices and tales of the people I met.
