Asexual and Sexual Reproduction

Have you ever looked at a bright red strawberry and wondered how it makes more yummy strawberries. A little green stem sneaks out and touches the ground, and pop. A whole new plant begins to grow. Have you ever seen a mommy cat with her soft, tiny kittens. It’s a wonderful secret, and I am that secret. I am the special magic that helps all living things make families and fill the world with life. I help everything grow, from the tallest trees to the smallest ladybugs, making sure there is always more to love.

Hello. I am Asexual and Sexual Reproduction. I have two special ways of helping life go on. My first way is like making a copy of yourself. A potato can grow a whole new plant from a little spot called an 'eye,' all by itself. A starfish can grow a whole new body from just one of its arms. Isn't that amazing. That is my asexual way. My other way is when two parents share a little bit of themselves to make a new baby that is special and unique. This is my sexual way. It is why you might have your mommy's smile and your daddy's eyes. People learned about my two ways a very, very long time ago, just by watching the wonderful plants and animals all around them.

Both of my ways are very important. They help fill our big world with so many different kinds of living things and all kinds of families. From the tiny ants marching in a line to the giant whales splashing in the big blue ocean, I am there. I help make sure there are always new flowers to smell, new puppies to cuddle, and new friends to meet. You are a wonderful and special part of this big, living world, too. I helped make you, and the world is so happy you are here. Life is a beautiful story that just keeps going.
