You can’t see me with your eyes, but I am there, building everything in your wonderful world. I am a happy little secret hiding in plain sight.

Hello. My name is the Atom. That’s a big word for a little thing like me. A very long time ago, a smart thinker in a sunny place called Greece had an idea about me. His name was Democritus. Around 400 BCE, he called me 'atomos,' which means I can’t be cut into smaller pieces. Then, much later, in the early 1800s, a kind teacher named John Dalton imagined I was like a tiny, round ball. He showed everyone that I am the builder of everything, putting me together to make water, air, and even you.

Guess what. I have an even bigger secret. People discovered that I am made of even smaller parts that zoom and wiggle inside me. It's like a tiny, happy dance. Knowing about me helps people do amazing things. They can make special medicine to help you feel better when you are sick. They can make clean power to turn on the lights.
