Do you have yummy snacks or your favorite toys. I am the secret helper that makes sure you have enough to enjoy now, and some to save for later. It feels like knowing a happy secret. When you decide to eat one big cookie today and save one for tomorrow, that’s me. I am whispering a smart idea in your ear. I am your very own super special plan. My name is Budgeting.

A long, long, long time ago, before there were big shiny cars or tall buildings, farmers needed my help. Around the year 3500 BCE, they had big piles of little seeds. I helped them make a special plan. We decided which seeds were for planting to grow yummy new food. And we decided which seeds were for saving to eat during the cold, snowy winter. I helped them write their plans on soft clay blocks to remember. Because of my plan, their families were never hungry. They had happy, full tummies all year long. It was a very important job and I was so proud.

Today, I am still here to help you and your family make wonderful plans. I help plan for yummy food from the grocery store. I help plan fun trips for vacation. I can even help you save up for a new, fluffy pet. When you put shiny coins in your piggy bank to save for a toy you really, really want, that’s me cheering you on. Hooray.
