Cell Division (Mitosis and Meiosis)

Have your shoes ever felt a little too tight for your feet. Or have you ever gotten a little scrape on your knee that magically healed all by itself. That is a secret little helper working inside you. It is a wonderful, happy secret. That’s me. I’m Cell Division, and my job is to help you grow bigger and stronger every single day. I am always busy helping you.

Everything that is alive is made of tiny, tiny building blocks. Trees, puppies, and even you are made of them. We call them cells. A long, long time ago, around the year 1665, a curious person looked through a special glass and saw these little rooms for the first time. He was so surprised. Soon, people learned that these little cells could do an amazing trick. They could copy themselves to make more and more. That is my special magic.

I have two super special jobs. My first job is to help you grow. I make perfect copies of your cells, like stacking the same colorful blocks, one on top of the other, to make you taller. When you get an owie, I make new cells to fix it all up. My second job is a very big secret that helps mommies and daddies. I help them make a brand new life. That is how babies are made. That is how you were made.

Every time you see a bright flower bloom in the garden, or a fluffy puppy get bigger, or when you notice you are a little taller, that's me at work. I am the tiny helper inside all living things. I am always working my happy magic. I make sure the world is always full of new life and amazing growth. It is so fun to help everything grow, grow, grow.
