Just want Dew?

The story

The World's Morning Drink

Have you ever walked outside early in the morning and seen the whole world glittering. I put sparkly little drops on blades of grass and make spiderwebs look like necklaces made of diamonds. I am not rain, because I do not fall from clouds. I just appear when the world is quiet and cool. What do you think I am.

Surprise. I'm Dew. I'm made of tiny bits of water that were hiding in the air. The air is like a big, warm hug that holds onto me all day long. But when the night gets chilly, the air gets tired and cannot hold me anymore. So, I turn back into tiny, sparkly drops of water on cool things like leaves, flowers, and your backyard slide. A very long time ago, around 350 BCE, a wise man in a place called Ancient Greece named Aristotle watched me. He was very smart and he figured out my secret. He learned that I came right out of the air when it cooled down.

I am very important for the thirsty world. I give little bugs like ladybugs and busy ants a morning drink to sip. Slurp, slurp. I help keep plants fresh and green, especially in places where it does not rain very much. They love my cool drops on their leaves. So next time you see my sparkly drops on the ground, you can say, ‘Good morning, Dew.’ You will know you are seeing the air give the whole world a cool, fresh drink to start the day.
