The story

The Morning's Sparkling Secret

I'm not rain; I don't fall from big, puffy clouds. Instead, I show up when the world is quiet and cool. I paint tiny, sparkling jewels on spiderwebs, make blades of grass wet and chilly for your bare feet, and leave little droplets on flower petals. When the sun peeks out, I make the whole world glitter like a treasure chest. But as the day gets warmer, I vanish like a whispered secret. Have you ever seen me? Hello, I'm Dew.

For thousands of years, people wondered where I came from. Long ago, the ancient Greeks thought I was a magical gift from a goddess named Ersa. They saw me appear in the morning and thought I was special water sent from the heavens. Around the 4th century BCE, a wise thinker in Greece named Aristotle watched me very closely. He guessed that I wasn't falling from the sky but was coming from the air itself when it got cold. He was on the right track, but my full secret was still hidden. It wasn't until much later, in the 1800s, that scientists like John Dalton figured it all out. They discovered that the air is full of invisible water, called water vapor. They learned that when the ground, leaves, and flowers cool down at night, they invite that invisible water to come closer and turn back into tiny drops. That's me. I'm not magic, just a wonderful part of nature's science.

Aven though my drops are small, I am a big helper. In very dry places where it hardly ever rains, I give thirsty little plants and busy insects a fresh drink to start their day. I show everyone that even when you can't see it, water is all around us, waiting to say hello. So the next time you see the world sparkling in the early morning sun, you'll know my secret. I'm just the air giving the earth a cool, quiet hug. I hope I make your morning walks a little more beautiful and remind you of the quiet wonders all around.
