Just want Ecology?
Have you ever watched a fuzzy bee buzz from flower to flower. The bee sips sweet juice, and in return, it carries fluffy yellow dust that helps the flower grow new seeds. It's a special hug between the bee and the flower. Or have you seen a little squirrel bury a yummy nut in the soft dirt. Sometimes, the squirrel forgets where it put the nut, and a big, strong tree grows right there. Everything in the big, wide world is connected, like holding hands in a circle. I am the secret that connects everything in nature. My name is Ecology.
For a very, very long time, people saw all the green plants and wiggly animals. They saw the tall trees and the tiny bugs, the swimming fish and the flying birds. But they did not always see how everyone was working together, like a big team. Then, a very smart and curious person came along. His name was Ernst Haeckel. He loved looking at nature. One day, a long, long time ago, in the year 1866, he gave me my name, Ecology. He wanted everyone to know that our world is like one giant house. In this house, every little plant and every big animal has a special job to do. The sunbeams give warmth, the rain gives drinks, and everyone helps each other live and grow. He helped people see the big, wonderful family of nature.
I am still here today, helping you be a great friend to our planet. When you help keep the water in the river clean, you are helping the fish have a happy, splashy home. When you help plant a new tree, you are giving the birds a cozy place to build their nests and sing their songs. I show everyone how we are all part of one big nature family. And every time you are gentle with a little bug or water a thirsty flower, you are helping me keep our world beautiful and full of wonder. You are a super helper for nature.
