The story

The World's New Wonder Team

Can you imagine a wall so long it looks like a stone dragon sleeping on top of mountains. Or a secret city carved into cliffs of pink rock, hidden from the world for centuries. Think of a giant stone ring where gladiators once battled, or a pyramid so perfect it seems to touch the clouds. These places are real, scattered all across the globe like treasures on a map. They were built by thousands of people, using their hands, their minds, and their biggest dreams. For a long time, they were just amazing places in different countries, but then something wonderful happened. They were brought together to form a special team, a group chosen by the whole world to represent the best of what humans can create. I am that team. I am the New Seven Wonders of the World, a list chosen by people all over the planet.

My story isn't brand new, because I was inspired by a much older idea. Thousands of years ago, there was a list called the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. It included magnificent places like the Hanging Gardens of Babylon and the Lighthouse of Alexandria. But over time, earthquakes and wars caused most of them to disappear. Today, only one of those ancient wonders is still standing tall: the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt. As the world moved into a new millennium, a man named Bernard Weber had a big idea in the year 2000. He thought, “The world is full of incredible places built since ancient times. Why don’t we make a new list to celebrate them, and let everyone in the world help choose.”. It was a fantastic idea. A list of 200 amazing monuments from all over the world was created. Then, the biggest vote in history began. People used the internet and telephones to cast their votes for their favorite places. It was a global celebration. More than 100 million votes were counted, and finally, on a very special day, July 7th, 2007, the winners were announced, and I was officially born.

So, who is on my team. Let me introduce you to the magnificent seven, plus our very special honorary member. First, there is the Great Wall of China, which twists and turns over mountains for thousands of miles. Then we travel to the desert to find Petra in Jordan, a whole city of tombs and temples carved directly into rose-colored rock. Next, we fly to Italy to see the Colosseum, a giant amphitheater in Rome where ancient crowds cheered for epic shows. In Mexico, you’ll find the pyramid of Chichen Itza, built by the Maya people to track the sun and stars. High up in the Andes Mountains of Peru sits Machu Picchu, a mysterious and beautiful city in the clouds. In India, the stunning Taj Mahal glows like a pearl; it’s a breathtaking tomb built as a monument to love. And in Brazil, the Christ the Redeemer statue stands on a mountaintop, stretching its arms wide over the city of Rio de Janeiro. Because the Great Pyramid of Giza was the only ancient wonder left, it was given a special title as an honorary member of our team, a true champion of history.

Being on this list is a great honor for each landmark, but I am more than just a collection of amazing places. I am a celebration of human imagination. I am proof that when people from different cultures and different times in history have a big dream, they can achieve incredible things. I show what is possible with clever engineering, hard work, and a powerful creative spark. From a wall that protected an empire to a city hidden in the mountains, each member of my team tells a story of human history and achievement. I hope that when you hear about these places, you feel inspired. I hope you look for the wonders in your own town or city and think about what amazing things you might build or create one day. The next great wonder of the world could be waiting in your imagination right now.
