I Am Suburbia
Imagine a soft, green lawn where you can run and play. The street is quiet, just right for riding your little red bike on the sidewalk. You can smell yummy burgers cooking in your neighbor's backyard. Houses are all in a row, each with its own front door and happy family inside. Do you know a place like this. It is a special place where kids can giggle and grow. I am that place. I am Suburbia.
A very long time ago, cities were big and loud. So many people lived close together in tall buildings. It was hard to find a place to play outside. After a big event called the Second World War in the 1940s, many families wanted a home of their own. They dreamed of a yard with a swing set and a puppy. So, a kind builder named William Levitt had a great idea. He started building lots and lots of houses just outside the city. The houses were cozy and had green grass all around. Soon, many families had their own special spot. Vroom, vroom. Cars helped mommies and daddies travel from their quiet new homes to their jobs in the busy city. It was a brand new way to live.
Today, I am a place full of friends. You can see kids selling yummy lemonade on a sunny day. You can go to the park down the street and slide down the big, yellow slide. Sometimes, all the neighbors have a big party right in the street, with music and yummy food. Everyone has their own cozy house, but they also have friends right next door to share toys and play with. I am a happy place for families to grow big and strong, to play hide-and-seek in the yard, and to make sweet memories that last forever.
