The Secret Path to Freedom
Hello. Can you keep a secret? I am a secret path, but not one you can walk on with your feet. I was a whisper in the dark, a safe place to rest when you were tired, and a guiding star in the big night sky. Before I came along, some people were very sad because they were not free to play and live where they wanted. I was a special secret that helped brave people find a happy new home where they could be free.
My name is the Underground Railroad. You might hear my name and think of a choo-choo train, but I am not a real railroad with tracks and a loud whistle. I am a secret team of very kind people who helped others a long, long time ago, starting in the late 1700s. The brave guides who showed the way were called 'conductors,' and the friendly houses where people could rest were called 'stations.' In these cozy stations, families could eat warm food and sleep in soft beds. We all worked together like a big family to help people on their journey.
My secret journeys ended a very long time ago, after a big war finished in 1865. That was when everyone was told they were free. Hooray. But I am still a story that people tell. I am a story of courage, friendship, and hope. I show how people can be very brave and help one another, no matter what. My story reminds everyone that helping others find safety and happiness is one of the kindest and most important things we can ever do.
