Just want Astérix?
Hello there. My home is a tiny village surrounded by a big, green forest. It’s a special place in a land that was called Gaul, way back around the year 50 BCE. Being a Gaul back then was tricky because the world was full of big, bossy Romans who wanted to be in charge of everything. But not us. We were small, but we were spirited and very, very stubborn. You might think I look a little funny. I have a helmet with wings that wiggle when I run, bright, curious eyes, and a magnificent yellow mustache that I am very proud of. I may not be the biggest warrior, but I have a secret that gives me incredible strength. It comes from a magic potion made by our wise druid. With just one gulp, I can send a whole legion of Romans flying. I am Astérix, the cleverest warrior in the village.
But here is another secret. I wasn’t born in that little village like a real boy. I sprang to life from the wonderful imaginations of two very good friends in a city called Paris. One was a writer named René Goscinny, and the other was an artist named Albert Uderzo. They decided the world needed a hero like me, and they first introduced me to everyone on October 29th, 1959, in the pages of a magazine called 'Pilote'. René was the one who gave me my funny adventures and all the clever words I say. He thought up the wild plans I use to trick the Romans. Albert was the one who drew me with his ink pen. He gave me my wiggling helmet and my big mustache. He also drew my best friend, Obelix, who is super-strong all the time because he fell into the magic potion cauldron as a baby. Albert also drew our wise druid, Getafix, and my little white dog, Dogmatix. My creators wanted to make a hero who was smart and brave, not just big and strong. They wanted to show how even the smallest person can stand up to bullies and protect their home with courage and a good plan.

They wanted to show how even the smallest person can stand up to bullies and protect their home with courage and a good plan.
My stories started in comic books, but soon I was leaping into cartoons and even movies. People all over the world, in many different countries, began to read about my adventures. They would laugh and cheer as my friends and I protected our little home from the powerful Roman leader, Julius Caesar, and his legions of soldiers. Even though I am a small warrior from a long time ago, I hope I show everyone something important. With courage, cleverness, and good friends by your side, anyone can be a hero. My adventures are a happy reminder that having a big heart and a sharp mind is much more powerful than having big muscles. That was true when my story first began in 1959, and it is still just as true today.
