The story

A Book of Whispers

Hello, little one. I am a book full of whispers and secrets. Inside my pages, you can find deep, dark woods and clever animals who talk. There are big castles that sparkle in the sun and brave children who outsmart witches. I hold the stories of kind girls who sing with the birds and princes who search for true love. I am a home for magic and adventure, waiting for you to open me up and listen.

My name is Children's and Household Tales, but you might know me as a book of fairy tales. Two brothers, Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, made me a very, very long time ago. They wanted to make sure all the wonderful stories people told would never be forgotten. On a chilly day, December 20th, 1812, they put the first collection of stories together in Germany. They traveled all around, listening carefully to storytellers and writing down every magical word. They filled my pages with friends you might know, like Cinderella, Snow White, and Hansel and Gretel.

When I was first made, only children in Germany could read my stories. But my stories wanted to see the world. So, they grew little wings and flew across oceans and over tall mountains to find new friends everywhere. Today, you can find my stories in your favorite movies and colorful picture books. I am here to remind you that every great adventure begins with "Once upon a time..." and that kindness is the most powerful magic of all.
