The story

A Whisper of Silk and Color

I am as soft as a cloud and as bright as a rainbow. I rustle and swish when you dance and twirl. I can be pink like a flower, blue like the sky, or yellow like a happy sunbeam. I have a little jacket and a big, round skirt that puffs out like a bell. Do you know who I am? I am a Hanbok, the beautiful, traditional clothing of Korea.

My story began a very, very long time ago, during a time called the Three Kingdoms of Korea, which started around the year 57 BCE. In a beautiful land called Korea, people wanted special clothes for special days. They made me with loving hands, using soft fabrics and colors from nature. My top is a little jacket called a 'jeogori,' and for girls, I have a big, flowing skirt called a 'chima.' For boys, I have comfy, wide pants called 'baji.' Families wore me for happy times, like a baby's first birthday, called 'doljanchi,' which is a tradition that started many hundreds of years ago.

Today, I still love to celebrate. You can see me dancing at weddings and parties. On special holidays like the Lunar New Year, called Seollal, and the harvest festival called Chuseok, families wear me to share yummy food and happy wishes. When you wear me, you are wearing a story of family, joy, and beauty that has been shared for thousands of years. I help everyone feel connected, like a warm, colorful hug from the past that you can still wear today.
