Miffy

Hello there! I am a little bunny made of simple, happy shapes. I have two very long ears that are perfect for listening to quiet stories. My mouth is a little cross because I am always thinking about my next adventure. I live inside the pages of a book. My world is filled with bright, cheerful colors like red, yellow, and blue. Everything is warm and sunny here. I am a little bunny, and my name is Miffy. I love hopping from one page to the next.

A very kind man named Dick Bruna made me a long, long time ago. It was on a sunny day, June 21st, 1955. He was on a trip with his little boy. They saw a real bunny hopping in a garden, and it gave him an idea. That night, before bed, he drew a picture for his son to make him smile. That picture was me! He used a paintbrush with thick, black lines to make my shape stand out. Then he filled me in with bright, cheerful colors so I would always look friendly and warm for all the children who would meet me.

After that very first drawing, Dick Bruna decided I should have lots of adventures. He put me in many, many storybooks. In my books, I get to go to the zoo and see the tall giraffes. I play in the soft, white snow and celebrate my birthday with my friends. Soon, children all over the big world started reading my books and became my friends, too. I may just be a simple little bunny in a book, but I hope I show you that even small, quiet moments can be full of wonder. My stories help remind you to be kind, have fun, and see the big, beautiful world all around you.
