Just want The Adventures of Pinocchio?
I am not just paper and ink. I am the scent of a carpenter’s workshop, the crisp smell of pine shavings on a stone floor, and the echo of a puppet’s clacking wooden feet. I am the bright spark of a wishing star hanging in a deep blue sky. Within my pages, I hold a wild, funny, and sometimes scary journey of a little wooden boy with a big heart and an even bigger dream: to become real. You might know me for a particular feature of my hero—a nose that has a peculiar habit of growing longer with every lie he tells. This small detail is a reminder of the tangled paths we all walk between truth and falsehood. My story began a long time ago, a tale carved from a magical piece of wood and filled with adventure, danger, and hope. I am The Adventures of Pinocchio, and I was born in the sunny, beautiful land of Italy, where imagination runs as freely as the winding cobblestone streets.
My life began in the mind of a clever and thoughtful man named Carlo Lorenzini, though the world would come to know him by his pen name, Carlo Collodi. He lived and wrote in the historic city of Florence, Italy, a place filled with art and stories. I didn't arrive all at once as a thick book. Instead, I took my first steps in a weekly children's magazine called 'Giornale per i bambini', which means 'Newspaper for Children'. My very first chapter, titled 'La storia di un burattino' or 'The Story of a Puppet', was published on the warm summer day of July 7th, 1881. At first, my creator, Mr. Collodi, had a much darker plan for me. He intended for my puppet hero to suffer a terrible fate at the end of the first fifteen chapters. But something wonderful happened. The children reading the magazine loved the mischievous wooden boy so much that they sent letters, pleading for more. Their passion and excitement convinced Mr. Collodi to change his mind and continue my adventure, giving me a chance at a much happier future.
The Adventures of Pinocchio: A Story Carved from Wood

Their passion and excitement convinced Mr. Collodi to change his mind and continue my adventure, giving me a chance at a much happier future.
Because of those dedicated young readers, my story grew and blossomed. After being published in parts for nearly two years, I was finally gathered together and published as a complete book in February of 1883. For the first time, children could hold my entire adventure in their hands. They could follow the lonely woodcarver Geppetto as he carved a puppet from an enchanted block of wood, a puppet who could laugh and cry like a human boy. They could read about Pinocchio’s tricky encounters with the sly Fox and the scheming Cat, his terrifying time spent in the belly of the giant Dogfish, and the wise lessons he learned from the beautiful Blue Fairy. I was more than just an adventure; I was a story about the difficult journey of growing up. Soon, my tale began to travel far beyond the borders of Italy. I was translated into hundreds of languages, becoming one of the most beloved and widely read books in the history of the world, teaching timeless lessons about honesty, bravery, and the powerful love of family.
Decades passed, and my story found a new way to shine. Across the ocean in America, a visionary storyteller named Walt Disney was captivated by my tale of a wooden puppet who longed to be real. He saw my potential to come alive in a way no one had ever imagined before. He and his incredibly talented team of artists at his studio worked for years, drawing thousands upon thousands of pictures to bring my world to life through the magic of animation. On February 7th, 1940, I leaped from the page onto the silver screen as a beautiful, full-color animated movie. This version was a little different from my original Italian self. The wise talking cricket, who was a minor character in my book, was given a charming name, 'Jiminy', and a much bigger role as Pinocchio’s conscience. The film also gave me a new voice through music, including the famous and hopeful song, 'When You Wish Upon a Star'. This cinematic masterpiece shared my story with millions more people around the globe, proving that a great tale can be told in many different forms and still touch the heart.
Over 140 years have passed since my first words were printed, yet I remain on bookshelves and screens all over the world. Why? Because I am more than just a fairy tale about a puppet. I am a story about what it means to be human. Everyone, at some point in their life, feels a bit like Pinocchio. We all make mistakes, we are sometimes tempted to take the easy way out, we tell lies we wish we could take back, and we desperately need the guidance and love of others to help us find our way. The journey to become 'real' is not just for puppets; it is the journey we all take as we grow up and learn to be the best versions of ourselves. I am a timeless reminder that true bravery isn't about being perfect or never making a mistake. It’s about being honest, showing kindness to others, and being loyal to those you love. That is a story that will never grow old, and it continues to inspire creativity and imagination in everyone who turns my pages or hears my tale.
