Hello there. My name is Topsy, and I am a Triceratops. I have three big horns on my face and a big frill around my neck just like a shield. I loved my home. My world was so big and green a long, long time ago. The sun was always warm and yellow, and it made me feel happy and sleepy. I loved to munch on giant, leafy ferns and taste sweet flowers with my big mouth. I had many dinosaur friends. We would stomp our big feet together and play hide-and-seek behind the giant trees. Our world was a happy, sunny place to be.
One day, a long, long time ago, about 66 million years ago, I saw something new. It was a tiny, bright star in the big blue sky. But this star got bigger. and bigger. and bigger. It looked like a fast-moving sun coming right toward us. Then, there was a big, bright flash of light, brighter than anything I had ever seen. A giant BOOM. shook the whole world. My big feet wiggled and wobbled on the ground. After the big boom, the sun went away. A big, gray cloud covered the whole sky, like a giant blanket that blocked all the light. The world got chilly, and the warm sunshine was gone. It felt like the sky had fallen asleep, and everything was dark and quiet.
The world was changing. It was getting too cold and dark for big dinosaurs like me and my friends. The yummy green plants started to go away. It was time for us to take a very, very long nap. We all curled up and went to sleep under the quiet, gray sky. Our long, long sleep was very important. It made room for new animals to come out and play. After we were gone, little fuzzy creatures with tiny noses and warm fur had their turn to run around the Earth. The world is always changing, and that's okay. It just means there are new wonders and new friends to see.
