Hello. My name is Rexy, and I’m a young Tyrannosaurus Rex. My world was the most wonderful place you could ever imagine. This was a very, very long time ago, about 66 million years ago. The sun was always warm on my green, scaly back, and the air smelled sweet like flowers and damp earth. Everywhere I looked, there were giant ferns that were taller than my dad. They were like big, green umbrellas that gave us shade when we wanted to take a nap. I loved to play hide-and-seek with my friends among the giant tree trunks. My best friends were a long-necked Argentinosaurus who could eat leaves from the very tallest trees and a Triceratops who had three cool horns on his face. We would race through the meadows and drink cool water from the wide rivers. Everything was perfect, and I thought our sunny, happy days would last forever.
One day, I noticed something strange. A new, bright star had appeared in the night sky. But this star was different. Every night, it got a little bigger and a little brighter. My parents and the other big dinosaurs didn't seem to know what it was. We all just watched it grow. Then, on one bright, sunny afternoon, the star came to visit. It streaked across the sky, and for a moment, it was brighter than the sun itself. I had to cover my eyes. Then came a sound louder than a hundred dinosaurs roaring all at once. BOOM. The ground started to shake and wobble, like a giant was dancing right underneath us. It wasn't scary, just really, really surprising. After the shaking stopped, something even stranger happened. A big, gray cloud of dust started to spread across the sky, like a giant blanket. It slowly covered the sun, and our warm, bright world became dark and chilly. The sunshine was gone, and we didn't know when it would come back.
Rexy's Story: The Day the Sun Went Away

That big cloud of dust stayed in the sky for a very long time. It was like a long, long winter that never seemed to end. Without the warm sun, many of the big, leafy plants we loved to eat started to disappear. Food became very hard to find for everyone, from the plant-eaters to big dinosaurs like my family. It was a time of great change, and it was the end of the world as we knew it. Our time as the rulers of the Earth was over. But even sad changes can lead to new beginnings. After the sky cleared and the sun came back, the world started to heal. And with the big dinosaurs gone, tiny, furry creatures called mammals got their chance to come out and explore. Over millions of years, those little creatures grew and changed, and they became all the amazing animals you see today, and even people. So, even though my story ended, it was the start of a whole new story for the world.
