The story

Father Miguel's Big Idea

Hello. My name is Father Miguel, and I lived in a beautiful country called Mexico a long, long time ago. I loved my home very much. But people from another country far away called Spain were in charge of everything. Sometimes, their rules were not fair for the people of Mexico. This made me feel sad. I dreamed of a day when the people of Mexico could make their own choices and take care of their own beautiful land. I had a big idea in my heart. I believed that Mexico should be free, like a bird in the sky. I wanted everyone to be happy and work together to make our home a wonderful place for all.

One very early morning, on September 16th, 1810, I went to my church in our little town of Dolores. The sun was just starting to wake up. I climbed up high and rang the church bell. DING. DONG. DING. It was a loud, important sound. Everyone in the town woke up and came to see what was happening. When they were all gathered, I told them about my big idea. I shouted, “¡Viva México!”. That means “Hooray for Mexico.”. I told them it was time for us to be in charge of our own country. Everyone cheered and waved. They felt excited, just like me. They all wanted to help make Mexico free.

That special day was the beginning of a big change. The idea that started with one little bell ringing grew bigger and bigger, like a tiny seed growing into a giant tree. Many people worked together for a long, long time to make Mexico free. I grew old and passed away, but the people kept going. And after many years, they did it. Mexico became its own country. Now, every year on that same day, people in Mexico have a big party to remember. It shows that even a small idea from one person can help change the whole world for the better.
