Our Big Adventure North
My name is Lily, and I used to live in a little house in the warm, sunny South. I loved chasing fireflies in our big green yard and drinking Mama’s sweet tea on the porch. One day, Mama and Papa told me we were going on a big adventure. They said we were packing our bags to move to a new home in the North. They told me the cities in the North were full of big opportunities and new jobs. I was a little sad to leave the fireflies, but I was so excited for a new adventure with my family.
We went to the train station, and I saw the biggest train ever. It went 'Woo-woo!' and puffed big clouds of smoke. We all climbed aboard and found a seat by the window. The train started to move, 'chugga-chugga, chugga-chugga,' and I felt the floor rumble under my feet. I waved goodbye to the green fields and tall pine trees. I watched out the window for hours and hours. Soon, the green fields turned into towns, and the towns turned into big, tall buildings. Papa said we were getting close. I held my teddy bear tight, feeling so excited to see our new home.
When we got off the train, I looked up, up, up. The buildings were so tall they looked like they could tickle the sky. The streets were filled with busy cars and so many people. It was so different from our quiet home in the South. We found our new apartment, and it was cozy and warm. Mama said we brought our own sunshine with us. We brought our yummy recipes for cornbread and our happy music. I couldn't wait to make new friends and share our sunshine with everyone in our new big city.
