The story

Festa de Iemanjá - Brazilian

Hello! I am the Festival of Iemanjá. I am a very special day that happens in a country called Brazil. People celebrate me to show their love and respect for Iemanjá. Many people believe she is the kind and powerful Queen of the Sea. My celebration is a way for them to say thank you to her.

On my special day, people bring beautiful gifts to the ocean. They choose presents they think Iemanjá would like. They bring lovely white flowers that look like little stars. They also bring shiny mirrors that sparkle in the sun. Another gift is sweet-smelling perfume. People believe these are wonderful presents for the Queen of the Sea. They carefully place all these gifts into small boats. Then, they gently push the little boats out onto the water. The boats float away on the ocean waves, carrying the presents for Iemanjá.

My celebration takes place right on the sandy beach, next to the big blue ocean. The sound of the waves is all around. Many of the people who come to celebrate wear clothes that are all white. It looks very beautiful against the sand and the sea. They sing songs together, and their voices fill the air. People also listen to the exciting sound of drums. It is a day full of music and beauty by the water. This is how people in Brazil celebrate me, the Festival of Iemanjá, to honor the Queen of the Sea.
