Hello! I am German Unity Day. I have a very special and happy job. My job is to help people remember an important time when the country of Germany became one big country again. For a long while, Germany was like a puzzle that was split into two pieces. One part was called East Germany, and the other part was called West Germany. My job is to remember the wonderful day when those two pieces came back together to make the country whole.
People celebrate me on my special birthday each year. My birthday is on the 3rd day of October. On this day, it is a holiday for everyone. This means that most people get to stay home from their jobs, and children get to stay home from school. It is a day for families and friends to spend time together. It is a day for rest, fun, and happy feelings.
To celebrate me, cities all over Germany have big, happy parties for everyone. These parties are often outside in the fresh air. There is so much to see and do! You can hear cheerful music playing, and you can smell yummy food being cooked. People wave the German flag to show their happiness. The flag is very pretty. It has three stripes of color: one is black, one is red, and one is gold. Seeing all the flags waving is a beautiful part of my celebration.
