Just want National Day - Belgian?
Hello! I am Belgian National Day, a very special holiday for the country of Belgium. You can think of me as a big birthday party for the entire nation, where everyone comes together to celebrate. People in Belgium observe me on the same day every single year, on July 21st. It’s a summer day filled with sunshine, fun, and feelings of pride for their country.
My story begins a long, long time ago, in the year 1831. This was a very important time because Belgium had just become a new, independent country. On July 21st of that year, something wonderful happened. Belgium’s very first king, a man named Leopold I, officially began his rule. He stood before the people and took a special oath. An oath is like a very serious and important promise. King Leopold I promised to be a good leader and to follow the country's rules to take care of the Belgian people. That moment was so important for the new nation that the date was chosen to be my special day.
One of the biggest and most exciting traditions that happens on my day is a grand parade in Brussels, which is the capital city of Belgium. The current King and Queen of Belgium attend this special event. They watch as many people march past them. You can see soldiers in their smart uniforms marching perfectly in step and police officers looking proud. Other groups who help the community also join the parade. If you look up at the sky, you might see something amazing! Sometimes, military airplanes fly high over the city in a special formation, like they are dancing in the air together. The sound of the planes and the cheers from the crowd make it a very exciting part of the day.

The fun doesn't only happen in Brussels. All across the country, towns and cities have their own ways of celebrating me. It is a day full of joy and activity. Many places host parties in public squares or parks. You might hear music floating through the air from free concerts where bands play cheerful songs. Families can often find fun games and activities to enjoy together. It’s a day for people to be outside, enjoying the summer weather and celebrating with their neighbors and friends. Everyone is invited to join in the fun and share in the happy atmosphere.
When the evening comes and the sky grows dark, the celebrations often end with a spectacular show. Beautiful, colorful fireworks are set off, lighting up the night. They burst into bright sparks of red, yellow, and black, which are the three colors of the Belgian flag. Today, people show their pride by waving that flag from their homes and at the celebrations. For many Belgian families, I am a wonderful day to relax, get together with loved ones, and celebrate the country they call home. I am a day for remembering an important moment in history and for celebrating being together as a nation.
