Just want Vesak?
Hello! I am Vesak. I am a very special day for people who follow a religion called Buddhism. People celebrate me in the springtime, when the moon is big, round, and bright in the night sky. My date is a little different each year, but I am always a happy and peaceful time.
I am a day to remember an important teacher. His name was Siddhartha Gautama, and he became known as the Buddha. On this day, Buddhists remember three special moments from his life. They remember the day he was born, a long time ago. They remember the day he grew up and understood many important things about the world and how to be kind. They also remember the day his life ended after many years of teaching others.
People celebrate me with light, kindness, and joy. Many people hang up beautiful lanterns made of colorful paper. At night, these lanterns glow with a soft, warm light. Families might visit special buildings called temples. There, they can listen to stories and make quiet wishes for peace for everyone in the world. A lovely tradition is to gently pour clean water over a small statue of the baby Buddha. This shows the idea of a fresh, clean start. Being kind is a very big part of me, so people also share yummy food with their family, friends, and anyone who needs it.
So, when you see colorful lanterns glowing under a full spring moon, you will know that people are observing me. I am a time for light, for remembering a kind teacher, and for sharing happiness with the world.
