Just want Potter's Wheel?
Hello, I am a Potter’s Wheel. I am a spinning friend. Long, long ago, before I was here, making a pot was very slow. Kind hands had to pinch and roll and coil the clay all by themselves. It was hard work. The little clay pots would get tired and sometimes they were a little wobbly. It took a very long time to make just one small cup. People wished for a faster way to make smooth, round pots for their families. They needed a helper to make their work a happy dance.
Then, I was born. It was a very, very long time ago, around the year 3500 BCE. I came to life in a warm, sunny place called Mesopotamia. At first, I was just a simple flat circle that could spin. A helper would turn me, and I would go round and round. Someone put a ball of wet, squishy clay right in my middle. As I twirled like a happy dancer, gentle hands helped the clay grow up, up, up. I helped the clay become tall and smooth, not wobbly at all. We would spin together, the clay and I, making a perfect circle every time. The people who made me were so happy. Now they could make pots much faster. I loved to spin and see the clay change its shape right before my eyes.
With my help, people could make so many wonderful things. They made round bowls for their yummy soup and tall cups for drinking cool water. They made plates for their food and jars to keep things safe. I made their lives a little easier and their homes more beautiful with all the new pottery. Today, I still love to spin. I help big artists and even little kids turn a simple lump of clay into something amazing. It makes me so proud to help everyone make something special with their own two hands. I will always love to go round and round.
