Just want Sundial?
Hello there. My name is Sundial, and I have a sunny secret. I can tell time using just the sun and a shadow. Long, long ago, before there were clocks that ticked or phones that beeped, people looked to me. They would ask, 'When should we plant our seeds? When is it time to meet our friends?'. I would whisper back with my shadow, saying, 'The sun says it's time.'. I was their special clock, and my power came from the big, bright sun in the sky. It was my job to help them know what time of day it was, from sunrise to sunset.
My story started a very, very long time ago, over 5,000 years ago in a warm, sunny place called ancient Egypt. That was around the year 3500 BCE. At first, I was not small and round like you might imagine. I was a giant stone tower called an obelisk, reaching high into the sky. People would gather and watch my long, dark shadow creep across the sandy ground. As the sun moved, my shadow moved too, pointing to different marks to show the hours passing. I felt so proud and important. Then, around 1500 BCE, the clever Egyptians decided to make smaller versions of me that could fit in a garden. I was happy to be closer to the people. Later on, my journey took me to new places, like ancient Greece and Rome. The people there were so smart. They looked at me and said, 'We can make you even better.'. They added more lines and numbers to my face, which made me more accurate. I could tell them the time not just in the morning and afternoon, but for many hours in between. I helped everyone organize their whole day.

I know that today you have fancy digital watches and clocks on phones that tell you the exact second. You might think my job is done, but I am still shining. You can find me in beautiful, quiet gardens, standing proudly among the flowers. You can see me on the sides of old, important buildings, telling my story to the whole city. I love it when people find me in sunny parks and stop to watch my shadow move, just like people did thousands of years ago. I am a reminder of a simple and clever way to tell time. I connect you to the sun above and the gentle turning of our amazing planet, showing how wonderful science and nature can be.
