The story

The Myth of the Dragon King

Hello! I live deep, deep down. Down here, under the sparkly, blue waves, is my home. It is a big, beautiful palace made of shiny pearls and glowing shells. My scales shimmer like a thousand green jewels in the water. My long whiskers tickle the little fish that swim by. They giggle with their tiny bubbles. My name is the Dragon King, and I want to tell you my story. It’s a very old tale that people have shared for a long, long time, and it’s called the myth of the Dragon King. It is a story all about me and the wonderful water.

My big job is to take care of all the water in the world. I look after the rivers that wiggle like snakes through the green fields. I watch over the quiet lakes that are like big blue mirrors. And I protect the big, wide ocean where so many friends live. When the flowers and the fields get thirsty, I fly up, up, up into the sky. The sky feels like a big, soft blanket. I swirl my long, green tail, and gentle raindrops start to fall. Pitter-patter, pitter-patter, on the ground. The rain helps the pretty flowers grow tall and the green grass grow green. It gives everyone fresh water to drink. Splash!

For many, many years, people have told stories about me. The stories help them remember to care for our wonderful world and all its water. To say thank you for the rain, they have happy parties. They celebrate with colorful parades and fun dragon dances. They even race big boats shaped just like me! My story helps everyone remember how important water is. It reminds them that magic can be found deep in the ocean or high in the sky. And even today, when you see a little puddle after it rains, you can imagine I just flew by, winking hello at you!
