Just want King Laurin's Rose Garden?
High in the jagged peaks, where the air is crisp and the eagles soar, I once ruled a kingdom of breathtaking beauty. My name is Laurin, and I am king of the dwarves who dwell deep within these mountains. My greatest treasure wasn't gold or jewels, but my garden, a magnificent expanse of crimson roses that bloomed all year round, protected from the world by a single, delicate silken thread. This is the story of my pride, my heart, and the legend that came to be known as King Laurin's Rose Garden. For centuries, my kingdom was a secret, a paradise hidden from the eyes of humankind. The roses glowed with an inner light, casting a soft, pink hue upon the pale rock faces of the Dolomites. It was a sight of such profound beauty that it could make the hardest heart ache with joy. To protect this sanctuary, I possessed three magical treasures that made me a formidable king, despite my small stature. The first was a cloak of invisibility, which allowed me to walk unseen among any company. The second was a ring that granted me the wisdom to rule my people justly and understand the secrets of the earth. The third, and perhaps most useful in times of trouble, was a belt that gave me the strength of twelve men. With these artifacts and my unparalleled garden, I was content and powerful in my solitude, believing my beautiful world was untouchable and that no harm could ever befall it.
My peaceful existence was shattered by a celebration in the valley below. The King of the Adige, a powerful human monarch, held a great tournament on the occasion of the May Day festival. Knights and nobles from far and wide were invited to compete for the hand of his daughter, the lovely Princess Similde. Invitations were sent across the lands, but I, King Laurin, was overlooked. Perhaps they thought me too small to be a king, or perhaps they simply did not know of my hidden kingdom. Either way, the sting of being ignored wounded my pride deeply. A bitter loneliness prompted me to act. "They will not ignore me," I muttered to myself, my voice echoing in my crystal halls. Donning my cloak of invisibility, I traveled down to the tournament grounds, a silent observer amidst the cheering crowds. It was there that I saw Princess Similde for the first time. Her hair was like spun gold, and her laughter was more musical than the streams that ran through my kingdom. Her beauty outshone even my most brilliant roses, and in that moment, I knew I had to have her. I decided she would be the queen of my mountain fortress. Under the cover of my invisibility, I swept her away from the festivities, carrying her back to my mountain home. I was certain that once she saw the splendor of my glowing rose garden, she would grow to love my magical kingdom and forget the world below. But her father, the King, was consumed by rage, not admiration. He enlisted the help of the greatest hero of the age, Dietrich von Bern, and his fearsome knights to rescue her. They followed the trail of crimson rose petals that had fallen during our swift journey and soon arrived at the single silken thread that marked my border. Snapping it easily, they entered my sacred garden. I met them there, furious at their intrusion but confident in my magic. I wore my belt of strength and my cloak of invisibility, ready to defend my home. I moved like a phantom among them, striking them down as they stumbled blindly through the rose bushes, confused and battered. For a time, it seemed I was invincible. But Dietrich was as clever as he was strong. He noticed that wherever I stepped, the soft earth was disturbed and the delicate rose petals were crushed. "Watch the ground!" he bellowed to his men. "Attack where the petals move!" His strategy worked. They began to anticipate my movements, wrestling me to the ground. In the struggle, they tore the magic belt from my waist, and with it, my superhuman strength vanished. I was captured, defeated by the very beauty I treasured most. My own garden, the source of my joy and pride, had become the instrument of my downfall.

My own garden, the source of my joy and pride, had become the instrument of my downfall.
As they led me away in iron chains, my heart broke not for my lost freedom, but for the betrayal of my roses. They were my confidants, my pride, the soul of my kingdom, and they had revealed my secrets to my enemies. In a moment of bitter sorrow and profound anger, I turned back to look one last time at the magnificent garden glowing against the mountainside. I raised my hands and uttered a curse, my voice booming with grief and power. "You beautiful roses, you have revealed my secrets and led to my capture!" I declared. "From this day forward, you shall never be seen again, neither by the light of day nor by the darkness of night!" My magic was potent, and as the words left my lips, the roses vanished from the mountainside. The vibrant crimson and soft pink light faded, leaving only bare, gray rock where my paradise once bloomed. But in my haste and my all-consuming anger, I forgot something crucial. I forgot the fleeting moments in between day and night: the tender twilight of dawn and the gentle gloaming of dusk. And so, my curse was incomplete. The magic of my garden was not entirely extinguished; it still lives on in those precious, in-between moments. Every morning at sunrise and every evening at sunset, the pale, rocky peaks where my garden once grew come alive with a fiery, rose-colored light. This breathtaking phenomenon, which people now call 'Enrosadira' or 'Alpenglow,' is the eternal echo of my lost kingdom. The story of my rose garden has been told for nearly eight hundred years, passed down through generations in the valleys of the Dolomites. It transforms a geological event into a tale of love, pride, and loss, reminding us that even in bare rock, there can be a story of hidden magic. It inspires artists to paint the glowing mountains and encourages us all to look at a sunset and wonder about the secret kingdoms that might still be hiding, just out of sight, waiting for the perfect light to reveal their magic.
