The story

The Three Brothers and the White Eagle

Once upon a time, there were three brothers who went on a big adventure. They were looking for a perfect place to call home. This is the story of Lech, Czech, and Rus. They walked through green forests and big, wide fields to find a special spot for their families.

Lech, Czech, and Rus walked and walked for many days. The sun was bright and warm. One day, Czech saw a big, tall mountain. 'Wow. This is my home,' he said with a happy smile. He waved goodbye to his brothers. Bye-bye, Czech. Then, Rus found a wide, green field with a sparkly river. 'Hooray. This is my home,' he cheered. He gave his brothers a big hug and stayed there. Now Lech was all alone. But he was not sad. He knew he would find his special place, too.

Lech kept walking. Walk, walk, walk. The sun started to go to sleep, and the sky turned a beautiful, bright red. He stopped to rest under a giant oak tree with big, green leaves. He looked up, up, up. What did he see. He saw a beautiful, big white eagle. The eagle was flying down to its cozy nest high in the tree. The white eagle looked so pretty against the red sky. Lech felt so happy. 'This is my home,' he shouted. He built his town right there and called it Gniezno, which means 'nest,' just like the eagle's nest. The big white eagle became a special sign for his new home.

The three brothers all found happy homes. Czech found a mountain. Rus found a field. And Lech found a home under an eagle's nest. Lech's home grew and grew into a country called Poland. The big white eagle is still the special sign for Poland today. It reminds everyone of the brave brother who found the perfect place to belong.
