Just want Mjolnir?
BOOM. CRASH. Do you ever hear that rumbling sound in the sky during a storm? That might just be me. My name is Mjolnir, and I am a mighty, magical hammer. I belong to my best friend, the strong and kind god Thor, and we have amazing adventures together in a shining land called Asgard. This is the story of how I was made, the myth of The Creation of Thor's Hammer.
My story began with a silly trick played by Thor’s brother, Loki. He was always playing games. He challenged two clever dwarf brothers, named Brokkr and Eitri, to a contest to see who could make the most wonderful treasures. The dwarves were master builders who worked deep inside a mountain where the fires glowed orange and warm. They pulled out shiny metals and started to clang and bang with their little hammers, making amazing things. For their final and most special treasure, they decided to make me.
As the dwarves worked at the fiery forge, Loki turned himself into a buzzy fly to try and distract them. Bzzzz. He buzzed around and even gave Brokkr a little bite, hoping he would mess up. But the dwarf was very focused and kept working the bellows to keep the fire hot. They kept working hard, and out of the fire, they pulled me. I was strong and shiny, but because of that pesky fly, my handle was just a little bit short. But that didn't matter one bit.
When Thor held me for the first time, he smiled a big, thunderous smile. He knew we were meant to be partners. I could fly back to his hand whenever he threw me, and together we protected our home and all the people in the world below. The story of my creation shows that even if something isn’t perfect, it can still be wonderful and strong. Today, people still tell our stories and draw pictures of me and Thor, remembering that true strength comes from being brave and helping others.
