Just want Mjolnir?
I am Mjolnir, and I am much more than just a hammer. When my master, the mighty Thor, holds me, I crackle with the power of a thousand storms. We fly across the sky together, a flash of lightning on a mission to protect our home, Asgard. But I wasn't always with Thor. My story began with a mischievous trick and a journey to the heart of a mountain. This is the myth of my creation, The Forging of Mjolnir.
My story started because of Loki, the god of mischief. He thought it would be a funny prank to sneak into Thor’s home and snip off all the long, beautiful golden hair of Thor’s wife, Sif. When Thor found out, he was not happy at all. His roar was as loud as thunder itself. He grabbed Loki and demanded he fix his mistake immediately. Loki, who was very scared of Thor’s anger, promised he would find Sif hair that was even better than before. He raced away to Svartalfheim, the dark land of the dwarves, who were the best builders and makers in all the worlds. There, he found two brothers, Brokkr and Eitri. Loki bragged to them, saying they could never make treasures as amazing as other dwarves he knew. Brokkr and Eitri were proud of their work and loved a challenge. They made a bet with Loki that they could create three magical gifts for the gods, and their last one would be the most wonderful of all.
I remember the heat and the noise of the forge deep inside the mountain. It was there that I was born. Eitri, the master craftsman, put a pig's skin into the roaring fire. He told his brother Brokkr to pump the bellows, a tool that blows air to make the fire hotter, and not to stop for anything. As Brokkr worked, a buzzing fly began to bother him. It was really Loki in disguise. The fly bit Brokkr’s hand, but he kept pumping. Out of the fire came a magnificent boar with bristles made of pure gold. Next, Eitri placed a pile of gold into the forge. Again, the fly appeared and bit Brokkr on his neck, even harder this time. Brokkr grunted, but he did not stop. From the flames came a magical golden ring that could create more rings. Finally, Eitri put a big chunk of iron into the fire. 'Don't stop now, brother,' he warned. 'This is the most important one.' The fly came back one last time and bit Brokkr right on his eyelid. For just one tiny second, Brokkr let go to wipe the sting from his eye. It was a very small pause, but it was enough. When I came out of the fire, I was a mighty hammer, but my handle was just a little bit short.

Loki and the dwarves traveled back to Asgard to show the gods their amazing work. The gods Odin, Frey, and Thor gathered to be the judges. Loki presented Sif with her new hair, which was made of real gold that would grow just like real hair. Then, the dwarves showed off their treasures. After seeing the golden boar and the magical ring, they presented me. The gods all agreed that I, Mjolnir, was the greatest treasure. I could hit any target and would always return to my master’s hand. I was the perfect weapon to protect Asgard from giants and monsters. Thor was so proud and happy to hold me. He became my master, and I became his loyal companion. The Vikings told my story to their children for many years, teaching them about strength and how even something with a small flaw, like my short handle, can be the greatest of all. Now, you might see me in movies and comic books, still helping heroes and reminding everyone that the best gifts are the ones that keep others safe.
